What is Freedom Weekend Aloft? Freedom Weekend Aloft is an annual 4-day festival featuring 100 hot-air balloons that launch twice per day and compete for prizes. There are also midway rides and games, carnival food and other fun activities such as the Disk Dog Competition and nightly concerts featuring nationally renowned recording artists. The festival promotes affordable family fun, hot-air ballooning, patriotism and tourism in the Upstate area, while raising money for local and regional charities.
Freedom Weekend Aloft was established in 1982 by the Greenville Chamber of Commerce to provide a local event centered on patriotic and family entertainment. 1999 was the first year that the Anderson community hosted the event in a new fifteen million dollar sports and entertainment center with grass amphitheater, 45000 sq. ft exhibition and banquet hall, softball fields, tennis courts, soccer fields, paved walkways, small lake, and more.
What are the event dates and hours? May 25 - 28, 2007, gates open from 12 p.m. to 11 pm.
How do I get there? The easiest way to get to the event from Interstate 85 is: From either direction take Exit 19A (US 76/Clemson Blvd). Follow Clemson Blvd/US 76 approximately 4 miles to Mall Road and turn right. Follow mall road to main parking lot on left.
Upstate Location: Midway between Atlanta, GA and Charlotte, NC on I-85. Anderson is just two hours from Atlanta, GA or Charlotte, NC and is in the northwestern corner of South Carolina.

What should I wear? Wear comfortable shoes, as there is a lot of walking involved from the parking areas to the event site and it is a large place. The event site is paved but is located on an incline. The amphitheater is a tiered grass amphitheater with walkways around the outside. Dress appropriately for the weather.
How much does the event cost? Admission to the event is free which covers viewing of the balloons each evening, remote musical stages, children’s entertainment, sponsor displays, disc dog competitions, etc. Parking costs $8, but $6 parking tickets may be available at area Bi-Lo. Headliner concerts cost $15 - $30 on average per show. Amusement rides, food, drinks, souvenirs, games, etc., have a fee also.
Where will the Calvary Home for Children booth be located? We haven’t been given a specific location as yet, but understand it will be close to where it was last year, perhaps a little closer to the Civic Center. Last year we were on the first row of tents about five tents up from the Civic Center. Once the booth is set up, I try to post a picture on the web site to assist you in finding us.
